Today the Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) published Part 2 of its review of the Department for International Development’s (DFID) approach to its £1.4 billion yearly spend through commercial suppliers. Ian McPherson and Rona Bassett from MCP2 have led the review; assessing DFID’s procurement approach, commercial objectives and reviewing a sample of 44 contracts including visits to Nigeria and Tanzania to explore some of these contracts in more detail.

The review’s overall assessment was green/amber stating there was ‘an appropriate overall approach to procurement with good performance in most areas of tendering, but significant weaknesses in contract management’.
